Cricinfo article on Ishant

Just finished reading cricinfo article by sidhart monga here And my first reaction, what a waste of time, energy and attention.. The article doesn’t state anything concrete, doesn’t take a stance, pretends to analyze something, puts up a quote by Ricky ponting(& Shane Warne) and a quote from a couple of weeks older article…

End result… article that leaves you frustrated….Ishant Sharma can be excused if on reading the article he reacted “Just get off my back and find something else or piss off..”

Anyway, i would point anyone in Ishant’s state to this talk on TED by Elizabeth Gilbert.. particularly the last couple of minutes..

Open-source pains

One of the biggest pain in working/using open-source software is variety and choice. While it’s indeed nice to have a variety of choices, it slows down building a tool/product simply because of the time it takes to evaluate and pick a choice. I mean one blind way is to try everything till one of it works,Another is usually the time period and commits that have been done on the s/w.

Python bool–

It’s interesting how much surprised you can get after using python for 3-4 years.. Especially, if you like me, had taken for granted the Boolean value.. until suddenly examine dir(bool) and find it is derived from both fractions and imaginary numbers.. i.e a boolean obj is a special type of complex no and also a rational number.

Clearly the computing substrate i have grown up uses algorithm on this priority.
2.pattern matching(probably a side-effect of strong memory)
3.Deductive Reasoning
4.Inductive Reasoning

Note Inductive Reasoning at the last?? that may be the reason, i haven’t developed many products so far.. I should include probabilistic Reasoning, but not sure where that comes in…

App. Dev Design

Mixing functional programming design and object oriented prog. design during your implementation phase is disastrous.. you end up with mixed up function calls and every debugging takes multiple call stack trace.. better decide beforehand which parts are going to be objects(stateful) and which ones going to be functional(stateless)

Amazon prime

Reading Jason Calacanis’ mail about amazon prime and how it’s going to put lots of people working in retail out of jobs, i realized one thing. Uh..Oh you are forgetting something in your enthusiasm Jason…
You say the reason retail store experience is bad is bitter baby boomer generation people and teenagers. It should scare you if they are out of jobs. Guess why, they will migrate to jobs as being the delivery man and they will be the ones delivering your shipped products ordered via amazon Prime.

So as they say be careful what you wish for, you just might get it all. As for why that should scare you, i leave it to your imagination. They now know your address, where you live and what time you’re home.:-P

P.S/Disclaimer/whatever: Personally the idea of not having to go to the retail store to buy these FMCG goods appeal to me. Phew…If only amazon had this service in India.
